9. Cozy Brick Candle Holders

Standard clay bricks, especially those with pre-existing holes (often called cored bricks), are naturally fireproof and have a wonderful, chunky texture that contrasts beautifully with the soft, delicate nature of a burning candle. They are perfect for creating cozy, atmospheric lighting for outdoor dinner parties, autumn gatherings, or relaxing evening baths.
To create these candle holders, look for three-hole or five-hole wire-cut bricks. Thoroughly clean them to remove any dust or loose material. You can leave the bricks in their raw, rustic red state, or you can give them a light whitewash with diluted white paint to achieve a chic, French-country look. Place standard glass votive inserts or metal-cupped tea lights directly into the holes of the bricks. The holes hold the candles securely, preventing them from tipping over. For a more dramatic, vertical look, you can use tapered candles, securing them in the holes with a bit of melted wax at the base. Wrap the outside of the brick with a piece of rustic twine or a sprig of fresh rosemary to complete the organic, cozy look.
