12. A Magical Brick Water Feature

12

Introduce the soothing, tranquil sound of running water to your garden with a magical, custom-built brick water feature. The gentle babble of water is incredibly effective at masking unwanted neighborhood noise, reducing stress, and attracting local birds and beneficial insects. By using bricks to construct a small waterfall, pond surround, or bubbling fountain, you create a water feature that feels integrated into the landscape rather than looking like an afterthought.

A simple and highly rewarding design is a bubbling brick column. Start by burying a heavy-duty plastic reservoir basin in the ground, placing a submersible water pump inside. Cover the basin with a strong metal grate. Stack bricks in a column over the center of the grate, running a flexible water tube from the pump up through the center of the brick stack. Drill a hole through a beautiful top stone or flat brick for the tube to exit. When you turn on the pump, water will bubble gently out of the top of the column and cascade down the textured sides of the bricks, creating a glistening, musical sculpture. Surround the base with smooth river stones and lush ferns to complete the natural, magical look.
