19. A Multi-Tiered Brick Waterfall
Create a dramatic, cascading showpiece in your yard with a multi-tiered brick waterfall. Waterfalls add a dynamic element of movement, light reflection, and sound to the garden, turning a quiet corner into an active, living ecosystem. By building multiple tiers of brick ledges, you can control the sound of the water, creating anything from a soft, gentle trickle to a loud, rushing cascade that completely drowns out urban noise.
To build a tiered waterfall, you will need a sturdy water reservoir at the base, a powerful submersible pump, and a durable pond liner to prevent water from seeping into the surrounding soil. Build up your tiers using bricks, ensuring each level is perfectly level so the water flows evenly over the entire lip rather than channeling down one side. You can use flat, wide paving bricks as the “spillway” stones, allowing the water to sheet beautifully as it drops from one level to the next.
